Thank you for rating this article.

Nitric acid or hydrogen nitrate is an inorganic compound with a chemical formula of HNO3. This acid is a highly corrosive and toxic substance, so that is a hazardous chemical. Pure nitric acid is colorless, fuming liquid with red or yellow fumes and an acrid odor. Older samples turn into a yellow cast. This yellow color appears due to the decomposition of HNO3 into water and nitrogen oxides. Nitric acid is widely used as a strong oxidizing agent. Also, this acid is used in industrial and chemical applications, including fertilizers, explosives, dye intermediates, and many different organic chemicals. Also, this chemical material has applications in manufacturing inorganic and organic nitro and nitrates compounds.
